Maine-based outdoor equipment supplier LL Bean is introducing its exclusive Japanese product line to the United States for the first time, and the first time since its inception for more than 30 years. In 1992, the brand opened its first store in Japan and began designing merchandise according to the preferences of the region. Now, with people growing passion for Japanese design, LL Bean Japan announced that it will launch a pop-up store this spring, allowing American consumers to experience its products up close.
With a staple item in Japan, this collection covers more than 20 styles and color schemes, including loose tailoring, high-quality materials and spring-filled earthy tones. Designedly, these silhouettes incorporate a unique perspective of Japanese craftsmanship and retain the brand’s traditions derived from Maine.
Classic LL Bean jackets, such as canvas work jackets and nylon hooded jackets, are presented in traditional outdoor colors and embellished with red and dark green; while striped T-shirts are spring-like tones such as bright yellow and light pink, paired with wild fishing illustrations and solid-color patterns printed with retro-style LL Bean logos.
This collection embodies a rich and continuous dialogue between the United States and Japan men’s clothing—a unique relationship that prompts the creation of similar《Ametora:How Japan Saved American Style》. LL Bean is not a one-on-one fight, and other Japanese brands such as Beams and GU are also steadily expanding their influence in the US market.
